April 27 class and HW for May 11
In today's class, I will return your brands homework from 4.20, then we will watch the video for the lecture and check your answers on pages 6-7. We will finish Unit 1 by doing page 8 in class, and then discuss about the way people are addressed in Japan. As a followup to this unit, read the article about Japanese forms of address here.
Homework for May 11: Choose two products and research the backgrounds of their names. These should be product names, not company names. Find out why the product was given its name.
Then, give your opinion about the name - do you think it is a good name? Why or why not?
Your homework should be four paragraphs long, 1.5-2 pages.
Paragraph 1: give an introduction of each of your products by saying what the product name is, what kind of product it is, what company makes it, and why you chose it.
***Make sure to write the product name in the format it is used (kanji, katakana, hiragana, English, or other language). If it is not an English name, write the original name and the English spelling for it. Make sure the spelling is correct!
Paragraph 2: report the results of your research on the backgrounds of these names.
Paragraph 3: give your opinion about the name.
Paragraph 4: write a short conclusion in which you state what you learned from this homework concerning the importance of names.
Type this homework if possible and print it double sided if you can. If you cannot, staple your pages together in the top left corner. Write your name, student #, and the date in the top right. Put at title at the top of the first page.
